Ferrell in cringe mode

Ferrell leans into a sad-sack, self-sabotaging character — closer to Get Hard than Anchorman — which won't be for everyone.

Flashes of promise

With David Gordon Green and Rian Johnson involved, there are glimpses of something sharper amid the uneven gags.

Pros

  • Will Ferrell's full-commitment comic performance
  • Strong comedy ensemble
  • Talent behind camera (David Gordon Green, Rian Johnson)
  • Fun golf-world satire

Cons

  • Hit-or-miss humor
  • Divisive sad-sack tone
  • Weak critical reception
  • Uneven pacing across episodes
Verdict A shaggy, uneven sports comedy that's better than its harsh critical reception suggests — Ferrell commits fully to a delusional cringe-hero, but the laughs are hit-or-miss and it never reaches Ted Lasso heights.
