• The film was originally developed and shot in 2020 under the title Solitary — it took six years to reach theatrical release, retitled Newborn and released through Mansa Studios and AMC Theatres in April 2026.
• Mansa Studios is a joint venture co-founded by David Oyelowo and Nate Parker to distribute independent films outside traditional studio channels — Newborn was one of its first major releases.
• David Oyelowo is best known for his acclaimed portrayal of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in Selma (2014), which earned a 99% Rotten Tomatoes score, and for leading the first season of Apple TV+'s Silo.
• Olivia Washington is the daughter of two-time Academy Award winner Denzel Washington — Newborn is one of her most prominent film roles to date.
• Barry Pepper and David Oyelowo previously worked together on Taylor Sheridan's Paramount+ miniseries Lawmen: Bass Reeves (2023).
• Nate Parker's previous directorial effort was The Birth of a Nation (2016), a historical drama about Nat Turner's rebellion which won the Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award at Sundance before a controversial press period.
• Cinematographer Elliot Davis is known for his work on Into the Wild (2007), Twilight (2008) and A Simple Plan (1998).

• The opening scene — in which Chris exchanges his clean shirt for his brother's bloodied one at the scene of the crash — has been noted by critics as narratively inconsistent with Chris's established character.
